Are you looking for a church home? If so, welcome to Beargrass! We are a warm and welcoming, faithful and friendly congregation. We are a part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), which from its frontier beginnings has been “a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world.” We are often described as a “bridge” church or an “umbrella” church because we welcome folks from many different church backgrounds. We encourage the members and friends of the congregation to “worship regularly, grow intentionally, and serve generously” as we seek to live out the Great Commandment and Great Commission.
Although our congregation can trace its roots back to 1784, we have “reinvented” ourselves time and again so that we have continued to be a vibrant, vital, faith community which is eager to embrace the mission to which God will call us in the future. You can find us in the heart of St. Matthews, but we truly are a “metro” church with people coming from places like Shepherdsville, Shelbyville, Fisherville, Goshen, LaGrange, Sellersburg, and New Albany to participate in the ministries of the church.
There is truly a “family” feel to Beargrass because we have folks in all ages and stages–and opportunities for them all. Someone described us as “big enough to serve you, but small enough to know you.” We love children and youth and we cherish our older adults. We have a passion for outreach and some of our exciting new endeavors have included the Beargrass Educational Partners ministry with St. Matthews Elementary and the Farmers’ Market, which was recently recognized as the “Best of Louisville.” I truly believe there is a place for you!
And so, welcome to Beargrass–and I hope to see you in worship this weekend!
