Last fall staff and church members met with consultant John Wimberly to review church structure and outline recommendations that will allow Beargrass to enhance and expand its ministries. A summary statement from Dr. Wimberly is available on our website. After numerous meetings, we have finalized our Purpose Statement and Goals.
We are Beargrass Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), part of a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. Guided by the love of God and a commitment to an open Table, we worship with hope, grow together as a community of faith, and serve with generosity and a passion for justice.
- Create inspiring worship experiences addressing congregational needs, with an eye toward the future.
- Enhance dynamic faith development ministries, raising expectations and broadening generational participation.
- Expand and encourage additional mission opportunities, focusing on community and global needs.
- Build outstanding human, physical and financial resources to sustain and grow our ministries.
Our next step is to develop strategies for the goals. Our Ministry Leadership Team and four small “specialty” teams (one for each goal) will meet to compile potential strategies. But we also want ideas and input from the rest of the church family. So please plan on attending an all-church strategy “brainstorming” session on May 19 at 10:00 am. Select one of the sessions about which you have a particular passion and interest. We will begin promptly at 10:10 and end at 10:45 am.
Later that day our children will present the musical “Fired Up!” It is our hope everyone will also get fired up about participating in this process. The MLT will gather all of the strategies, prioritize them, and then assemble teams to implement the top strategies. Remaining strategies will be considered in the future. We hope you are excited about this Purpose Statement and Goals. We believe it is critical that we define who we are and outline a plan for developing the ministries at Beargrass.
Yours in Christ,
Keith Wilson, Board Chair
Dr. Leigh Bond, Senior Minister
