Greetings, Beargrass! My name is Rev. Erin Phelps, and I’m so excited to serve as your Minister for Children & Communications.
I’m an alum of Louisville Seminary and an ordained Baptist minister (Cooperative Baptist Fellowship & Alliance of Baptists). Before my call to Beargrass, I worked for ‘The Faithful Formation Project’ at Louisville Seminary, spent a year as a chaplain resident at Baptist Health Louisville, and served in various interim roles at my home church, Highland Baptist Church. I’m married to Charlie Suer, a math teacher at Collegiate. We live with two cute cats (Sam and Molly) and recently adopted an awesome mini Australian Shepherd (Cleo). In my free time, I love analyzing pop culture, reading a variety of genres, and fitting in workouts at the JCC.
One of my great passions in ministry is equipping people to take ownership of their beliefs and express their faith in their own unique voice. It is such an honor to have the opportunity to apply this passion to the children of Beargrass. I can’t wait to meet them, love them, share the stories of Jesus with them, and listen to their insights as we grow in faith as a community. I also find joy in calling people into meaningful opportunities to use skills and passions to serve the church, so I have great hope for the ways I can craft and continue meaningful family programming at Beargrass. My interview process showcased many fabulous things about this church, but one quality shone extra bright: Beargrass is clearly full of love for neighbors both inside and beyond the church’s walls. I’m delighted to get to know you all better in the days ahead as we continue that work of loving care. Thank you again for welcoming me to serve!
