Alternative Giving Fair, 2024

Online Giving Link Coming Soon!

While the generosity of Beargrass is on full display year-round, it always seems amplified in the Thanksgiving and Advent seasons. Rev. Shrader just reported that our youth assembled 140 Thanksgiving food baskets for distribution through St. Mams to local families in need. And, Rev. Straub announced that 333 Beargrass gift bags of pajamas and books will be under the trees at Family Scholar House on Christmas. Now, we wish to announce additional opportunities to extend the hope of the Christ Child…through our two-decade tradition of the Alternative Giving Fair.

The Fair will run online December 3-24. And, on Sunday, December 15, personal representatives from the following will be on-site in our gathering space to share information on the meaningful work of their organizations. If you choose to donate then or through the church office, please make your check payable to Beargrass, noting the intended agency recipient on the memo line. So, as we approach the celebration of Christ’s birth, please prayerfully reflect on His teachings as well as your blessings from our Creator, and consider being a blessing to others through one or all of the following:

LOU (Louisville Outreach for the Unsheltered).  This successor to Fed With Faith, founded at Beargrass in 2013, is dedicated to serving Louisville’s unhoused population on our city streets by providing meals, coats, bicycles, and other essentials. Serving from this campus, members and friends of our church play an integral role in this ministry throughout the year.

Lighthouse Academy at Newburg.  Lighthouse’s mission is to provide neighborhood youth with a safe place to learn and grow through educational, economic, and spiritual programs. Homework completion, tutoring in reading and math, a hot meal, and transportation are all included in its after-school focus.

WaterStep.  Now in its 30th year, this local ministry offers safe water solutions worldwide. It provides water sanitation, disaster relief, well repair, and sanitation and health education, often-times through mission partners like Beargrass. Their patented technology has impacted lives in 72 countries to date.

International Missions.  During the past decade Beargrass mission teams (both youth and adult) have made several trips to Guatemala’s Hope for Tomorrow Children’s Home and to  Costa Rica’s Strong Missions. The former provides a family environment to meet the physical, educational, medical, and spiritual needs of its young residents, while the latter works to strengthen the infrastructure of families, schools, churches, and homes for impoverished children and older adults. You may designate your donation for one or both, by so indicating on your check memo line.

YMCA Safe Place.  A component of the YMCA of Greater Louisville, Safe Place provides help, hope, and healing to teens and families in crisis, including sheltering for homeless youth. Now serving throughout the US, it is currently celebrating the 50th anniversary of its founding right  here in Louisville.

Habitat for Humanity.  With the vision of a world in which everyone has a decent place to live, Habitat attempts to build strength, stability, and self-reliance by partnering with families in need of affordable housing. While Habitat is operational in all 50 states and over 70 countries, your donation will go to the Louisville chapter.
