A New Spirit Sermon Series at Beargrass

A New Spirit of Compassion

Rev. Erin Wathen was preaching at our services on Sunday. Erin is the new Associate Director for Marketing and Communications with Week of Compassion—the relief, refugee and development mission fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Prior to taking on this role, Erin served congregations in Kentucky, Arizona and Kansas City.

Erin was the 2010 recipient of the Fred Craddock Award for Excellence in Preaching. A graduate of Transylvania University and Lexington Theological Seminary, she recently earned a post-graduate certificate in Non-Profit Leadership from Rockhurst University. Erin is also a writer and has published two books. Her most recent, “Resist and Persist: Faith and the Fight for Equality,” was a Publisher’s Weekly Book of the Year in 2018 and recently won an Indie Book Award. Her blog, “Irreverin,” appears on the Patheos Progressive Christian network.

Erin and her family have been attending worship at Beargrass and participating in the life of the church. She grew up in London, Kentucky, and has moved back to Louisville with her husband, Jeremy, and their children, Harper and Silas. They are glad to be closer to many friends and family members all over the state.

Erin shared some fresh, new perspectives about the very familiar—yet remarkably relevant and significant—story of the Good Samaritan.
