The story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and their encounter with King Nebuchadnezzar is a ministry staple in most children’s ministries and one many of us remember fondly from childhood.
We look at that story found in Daniel 3 but, we’re stopping short of the whole fiery furnace scene. Wait? What? Is that even allowed? When you and I think of that story we most likely remember the furnace. At first glance, that appears to be the climax of the story. But what if I tell you that what’s actually most important and instructive about the story doesn’t involve the heroes being thrown into the fire?
Though thousands of years old this is an amazingly relevant story for our lives today. Hopefully, we’ll never face a life and death choice involving our faith but all of us have faced challenges in life that leave us somewhat confused and paralyzed trying desperately to discern what to do and which way to go. This story attempts to answer the question of what to do when life appears to be falling apart and there’s no clear right answer.
